President Trump continues to fail and lie so people die

President Trump continues to fail and lie so people die

President Trump continues to fail us in so many ways that it is hard to pick his greatest failure. Perhaps his greatest failure is his response to COVID-19. Americans, especially old Americans, are dying because of that failure.

About 220,000 Americans are dead and hundreds are being added to that each day. Somedays it is over a thousand new deaths. In addition many are seriously ill. And sometimes this illness is long term (Long Covid)

President Trump continues to lie about COVID-19

President Trump continues to lie about COVID-19

President Trump now claims that the World Heath Organization (WHO) now supports his position on COVID-19.

I am not surprised that President Trump continues to lie about COVID-19. After all there are over 215,000 Ameicans dead and the President does not seem to be doing much to stop the spread.

Trump doesn’t seem to wory much about senior citizens

Trump doesn’t seem to wory much about senior citizens

President Trump thinks COVID seriously affects virtually nobody unless they are older. There are over 200,000 dead and many of those deaths are in the over 65 group. Well, the Retire Guy is in that age group and I resent the president’s disregard for us older Americans.

He said that several weeks ago (see Trump’s coronavirus remarks weigh on minds of senior voters and Trump Has Declared the Coronavirus—Which Has Killed 200,000 Americans—Affects ‘Virtually Nobody’.

CDC and Dr. William (Bill) Foege

CDC and Dr. William (Bill) Foege

Dr. William (Bill) Foege was the director when I started at CDC. Back then (1978) it was the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Now it is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They reorganized into a series of centers with focus in specific areas and added prevention to the name but kept the acronym.

I spent 30 years at CDC and so went through many changes of Directors. As far as I was concerned, Dr. Foege was the best.

CDC and political ping-pong

CDC and political ping-pong

Do you remember CDC?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was once considered the best, or at least one of the best, public health agencies in the world. Until President Trump, they successfully guided the US though several epidemic and pandemics. Now the Trump administration is doing their best to ignore the advice of CDC and other public health experts as he fails to protect the American people from COVID-19.

Politics and death

Politics and death

We are talking about President Trump’s politics and and how that relates to the large number of deaths due to his failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I do not think President Trump was not responsible for the virus coming here. But he is responsible for the large number of deaths that resulted from his incompetence and lies about the problem to the American people.

Food for the living

Food for the living

Thanks to our President and his mismanagement of the COVID-19 crisis millions of Americans are in great financial difficulty and quite often do not even have food to eat. In addition there are over 150,000 of us dead. I’ll not speak about them today, the hungry living will be my topic – Food for the Living.

As I’ve often mentioned: It did not have to be this bad.

Ridiculous Republican corona virus relief plan

Ridiculous Republican corona virus relief plan

A bit over 2 months ago the House passed their corona virus relief bill (H.R.6800 – The Heroes Act) It was passed May 15, 2020 to help our county beyond the action taken earlier. This post specifically the unemployment benefits to help people when have lost the jobs in the Trump-Covid economy which are set to empire at the end of July.

Of course the Senate Republicans have done next to nothing since May 15 to address this problem. Except the occasional complaint about unemployment benefits being too high.

March Tweet on H1N1, July update on COVID-19

March Tweet on H1N1, July update on COVID-19

Back on March 15 President Trump (aka @realDonaldTrump ) tweeted “The USA was never set up for this, just look at the catastrophe of the H1N1 Swine Flu (Biden in charge, 17,000 people lost, very late response time), but it soon will be.”

Remember those days when 17,000 seems like such a big number. The message of the tweet was clearly that where Obama and Biden failed to save us in that pandemic, and President Trump would save us in this one. He would prepare the USA to fight the pandemic and certainly have a smaller number of deaths.
