CDC and political ping-pong

Do you remember CDC?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was once considered the best, or at least one of the best, public health agencies in the world. Until President Trump, they successfully guided the US though several epidemic and pandemics. Now the Trump administration is doing their best to ignore the advice of CDC and other public health experts as he fails to protect the American people from COVID-19.

In the lastest news is an good example of the ever-changing guidance after it goes through the political machinery of the Trump administration. So far we have seen 3 steps.

Step 1 CDC says if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should be tested.

Step 2 President Trump thinks testing makes him look bad so someone in his administration changes the guidance to say if you are exposed, you may not need testing unless you develop symptoms. So fewer people are tested. President Trump is happy. The public health community is not.

Step 3 CDC revises guidance again by going back to its original guidance.

The ball is now on the President’s side of the ping-pong table. Will he hit it back and change the guidance again or will he just call CDC confused like he has done about the masks and vaccine statements?
