Renegade: Defending Democracy and Liberty in Our Divided Country by Adam Kinzinger

After the shock of the January 6, 2021 insurrection (https://www.jackreidy.com/blog/2021/07/02/insurrection-based-on-a-lie/ and https://www.jackreidy.com/blog/2021/12/06/a-national-disgrace-or-6/), I followed the news about it closely. I was very impressed by the 2 Republicans who sacrificed their positions in the Republican party and ultimately their seats in Congress to serve on the committee investigating this.

So when I got Adam Kinzinger’s book for Christmas, I was eager to read it. I enjoyed the book but was a bit surprised. It starts talking about about January 6 Select Committee and after a few pages moves to his early life, then local politics. Then a large part of the book focuses on his miliary career, followed by life in Congress and then back to the January 6 Select Committee and present day difficulties. I had expected a greater concentration on January 6 or a more linear narrative,

But in retrospect I think how the was the book was arranged worked well. Afterall, I watched the January 6 committee public presentations as well as following news about it. So learning more about the man who defied his party to join the committee was time well spent. I especially enjoyed reading about “Country First”

It was a good book and informative. I highly recommend it. Benjamin Franklin was asked after the Constitutional Convention what type of government we would have. He replied “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Read all about it, follow the news, and try to keep our Republic.
