I have previously written Are Republicans the enemy of democracy?. I think that is generally true but one Senator stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has announced his intention to object the Congressional certification of the electoral college vote. This is extremely unlikey to succed but if it did, it would disenfranchise millions of American voters.
This attempt may endear him to Trump supporters and help him obtain the Republican nomination for President but my guess is that it would also hamper him in any general election.
Although some Republicans may not like it, we still live in a democracy and President-elect Joe Biden did win the election. I am glad some Republicans have take stand against Senator Josh Hawley’s attempted theft of the election I do hope that Senator Hawley’s political career is not a long one.
This was written well before the terrorist attack on our Capitol (see a Brief history of terrorist attacks on the Capitol). The vast majority of Republican Senators with the notable exceptions of Senators Hawley and Cruz chose to not contest the election.
Again Senator Hawley chose to make his stance against the will of the American people. Many Republican in the House did the same. Shameful behavior.
