I had no interest in building a wall between Mexico and the United States. When Candidate Trump talked about it, I thought it was a bad idea. But he told us Mexico would pay for it. Still a bad idea but at least I would not be paying for it.

But then it became apparent that Mexico was not cooperating in this plan and would not pay. It looked like we American taxpayers were on the hook for President Trump’s dream. (see Where are the pesos? How about the Wall? ).

But maybe there is good news from Texas.

If we do end up with another president who believes our immigration problems will be solved with a wall from sea to shining sea, we are now somewhat better off.

Governor Abbott is going to build a wall (at Texans’ expense) on the part of the border in Texas.

The residents of the other 49 states will only be responsible for the part of the Wall outside Texas now. Some of us still think the Wall is a bad idea but I think all of us like the financial relief.
