January 6 House select committee

We need to understand why and how the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol occurred. There is something very wrong and we need to understand it. We also need to know how on how we can prevent future attacks.

Criminal investigations are certainly part of that but we really need a look at a bigger examination that goes far beyond that, It seems to me a much more wide-ranging investigation is needed.

I was pleased to see H.R.3233 – the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act pass in the House. It was bipartisan but it was a bit disappointing to see only 35 Republicans support it. The when Senate Republicans filibustered the bill the National 1/6 commission idea was blocked.

I am pleased to see the January 6 select House committee pass. At least now there will be something like the investigation I think is needed.

I was disappointed that only 2 Republicans voted for it. Ideally, we should have a bipartisan committee to investigate. This will be somewhat bipartisan but the ideal of a truly bipartisan commission was blocked by Republicans. This is not the best solution, just the best that Republicans will allow.

Maybe “allow” is too strong and this is just something they cannot block.
