Interesting, disturbing, and useful

I reading about the COVID-19 virus I found an article in the New York Times that was interesting, disturbing, and useful. It is not everyday that you run across an article that is all three.

It was interesting because it contained important information on the current pandemic and possible ways things could develop.

I found it disturbing because this information is at least a few weeks old and has been kept secret by our government.

And I found it useful and important because toward the end of the article they reported on additional studies relevant to the spread of the pandemic including support from the 1918 Spanish Flu. The US surgeon general at the time suggested the usfulnes of closing public gathering places. We would now call this social distancing measures. A comparison of 2 large cities, one that follow the suggestion and one that did not, showed a very marked difference in death rates. It would be interesting to see more data from that period.

Social distancing measures have also been helpful in the current pandemic. So this article is important, interesting, disturbing, and useful. Definitely worth your time to give it a read.
