Put country before party

Now is the time to put country before party. Congress has blocked President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency on the southern border that is clearly not an emergency. Just an abuse of the power of his office.

In declaring the “emergency” President Trump said: “I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster, I just want to get it done faster, that’s all.”

Considering that he “didn’t need to do this” and Congress has refused funding as recently as days before his declaration, it does not seem to be much of an emergency to me. Just abusing his power as President to get his way. Since he broke his campaign promise to have Mexico pay for the wall he wanted, now he is trying to get the American taxpayer to pay for it.

A few days ago President Trump vetoed the congressional resolution blocking this emergency declaration and it is now time to override the veto and put country over party.

Members of the House and Senate, please consider putting loyalty to your oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States over loyalty to a political party. I think the constitutional issue is much more important than other consideration such as loyalty to the President, partisan concerns, or being tough on immigration.
