Privacy is not easy

Most of us say we want privacy or at least some privacy in this connected digital world. But privacy is not easy. Our inboxes are filled with notices of privacy policy updates as a result of the European General Data Protection Act (GDPR). We assume we are getting more privacy but it is not quite that simple.

It is possible to use the new GDPR rules to enhance your privacy but it does not happen automatically in most cases. You can enhance your privacy settings and the GDPR makes that possible but you need to act if anything substantial is going to happen.

If you think about it there are many companies using your data and they would like to continue doing so. So the default settings favor that. But since these companies would also like to continue doing business internationally, they need to adhere to European standards but the default settings will probably favor the company as much as possible.

Privacy is not easy. Change those default settings in your favor.

An interesting article on this was recently published in the Washington Post. It is worth reading is you want to enhance your privacy.

Remember, privacy is not easy.
