Telephone Fraud

Lately it seems that more telephone calls are some sort of telephone scam or fraud than people I actually want to talk to.

Just in the past few days I have gotten calls from people you claim to be from the IRS or the social security administration or utility companies, or credit card companies.

The IRS people are auditing my tax return and although I am being audited and apparently owe the government thousands of dollars, the agent would be glad to settle for a few hundred dollars in gift cards. This is apparently my lucky day and I should call back for details on this great deal.

The social security administration is investigating fraud on my social account and I need to press 1 now to stop them from freezing my bank accounts.

The utility companies are pleased my my payment history and would like me to press 1 to get details on the discounts or rebates they will offer to good customers like me.

The credit card company will lower my interest rate. But this is my last chance to take advantage of this offer. This about the 100th time I have been given this last chance and the caller sounds like that are getting a bit impatient with me.

Medicare will give me stuff for free is I press 1 now

I almost forgot about the agency that is sending cops to my door unless I call back.

I get anxious calls from my grandchild who is in jail for some minor offence and needs me to wire bail money. I do not have grandchildren but maybe some poor kids somewhere are so upset they called the wrong number.

So many telephone calls. So many likely scams.

If you get similar calls, maybe you should read up on scams here:
