Reidy, Kilmore, Kielduff, Tralee. Jeremiah Reidy,1852-1949, mar Margaret Scanlon. As Margaret was the eldest of six girls(no sons),the Scanlon farm, Kilmore, passed to her, and hence to her husband Jeremiah Reidy, on the death of her father in 1889. Thus the farm passed to Michael Reidy, 1889-1987, who married Mary O'Connor, thence to their son Jeremiah 1916-1992, who mar Mary King (children:Tom, Mary, and Michael). I am seeking information on a Bartholemew Reidy, a blacksmith from Tulla, Co Clare. His children’s birth registrations suggest he was known as Batt Reidy. It is not known where he was born (?1830) or where he actually died, but his daughter Annie’s New Zealand marriage notice in 1907 states he was deceased from Tulla, Co Clare. His daughter Ellen’s New Zealand death certificate also states his name as Bartholemew Reidy, blacksmith, from Co Clare. His father’s name may also have been Bartholemew and a blacksmith. It is believed that his wife was Mary McNamara (b.? 1831) and they had a number of children. Not all of their names are known. Those that are - Bartholemew (b.1864 Quin/Tulla), Johanna (b.1866 Quin/Tulla), Martin (b. 1868 Quin/Tulla), Ellen (b. 1871 Quin/Tulla), Annie (b. unknown, but may have been the already mentioned Johanna who was called Annie for short by the family), James (b,unknown). There may have been a second Bartholemew born following the earlier death of the first Bartholemew.
His daughter Ellen Reidy (b. 1871) was my great grandmother. She left home in 1892 from Tulla to travel to New Zealand with her sister Annie, arriving in the Hawkes Bay, North Island, NZ in 1893/94. She married John Halpin (b. 1854 Co Wicklow)in 1896 and went on to have 7 children. She died in 1915 (childbirth) in Opunake, Taranaki where the family had settled on their own farm.

Patrick John migrated to Australia some time before 1881, mar Jane Greville at Beaufort, Victoria in that year. It is thought that the other may have migrated to America about 1895 when the Frawleys sold the farm. Maureen lived in America. She may have mar someone with the surname Doolittle.
We think that Michael's parents may have been Patrick Reidy and Bridget Frawley and that Ellen Meehan's may have been Thomas Meehan and Honor Conway.
We do not know when Patrick migrated to Australia. He became a Roadmaster with the Victorian Railways and died in 1917 at Bendigo, Victoria.

Patrick joined the RIC in 20/6/1848 and was shown as Native of Cork E.R. and Catholic. Discharged from RIC 20/11/1862 on a graturity of 40/- per annum and moved to Dromcolligher where Mary was Born in 1862/63 and later that year 1863 travelled to Liverpool and emmigrated to Australia with all family on the Ocean Empress arriving 1864.
Patrick's Father was John Reidy &Mother was Margaret Kendrick, according to the shipping records John was alive and Margaret had died. The emmigration papers showed Patrick as being from Tullig, Limerick which I have discovered is short for Tulligmacthomas and according to the Griffiths Valuation a John Ready owned two tracks of land at Tulligmacthomas, Interesting to note that Patricks Police service record has his name spelt as Ready. All other documentation has Reidy and considering Patrick could read and write it is probably other peoples interpretation. Also according to the family descendants of John Ready, Tulligmacthomas the spelling is Reidy and the family farm has only recently been sold but still exists. Still have no proof as yet but hopefully the contact made with the descendants of John Ready Tulligmacthomas it want be to long.

Anne Riedy was married to Edmund FINN in Melbourne 21 April 1849. Our records indicate she was born ca 1832 with a clear indication it was in Castleconnell Limerick, she died in 1881 in Melbourne, her father was MIchael Riedy. We have no indication of how she got to the colony but we do know that Eliza Riedy was a witness to her marriage and later a personal diary of her husband records Eliza coming to stay at the house for some time.

This is one of the few listings here by someone who resides in Ireland. He is trying to find family members who emmigrated. Seeking info on Catherine Reidy b August 3rd 1870, Mary Bridget Reidy b May 6th 1878 {probably known as Bridget} and Alice Masterson { nee Reidy } b June 29th 1882, Alice's twin sister Helen or Ellen died several weeks after her birth. All three were born at High Road, Thomondgate, Limerick, Ireland and were baptised in St. Munchin's Church {R.C.} Either Catherine or Mary Bridget married a man named Di Orange who owned a grocery store in New York in the 20's 30's 40's and had a son John Di Orange. Catherine and Mary Bridget had emigrated from Ireland before 1900. The girls were three of the 13 children born to William and Margaret Reidy {nee Dillon}. The others were Bridget (1871-1876) , Mary (1873-1875), Margaret (1874-1878), John (1875-1934, mar Mary Hogan and had no children), Margaret(1879-1879), Mary (1880-1880), Mary (1881-1942, mar Thomas Goodwin in 1901 and had 5 children William, Thomas, Margaret, Alexander, Patrick), Margaret (1883-?, mar James Mc Kenna in 1907 and had two children Bridget and Daniel, who became a priest) and William Reidy (1890-1959).

I am trying to trace some information about Michael Reidy who died in Limerick in 1942. He was mar to Ada (nee Shine). I know he had a brother named Patrick who died in France during WW1. Michael was about 47 years old when he died, which means he must have been born in 1895. Ada and Michael had 5 children: Joseph, Celia, Noel, Paddy, and Ita (christened Mary Ita). Michael also served (to the best of my knowledge) in the British Army during the WW1 in France. He may have been brought up by a lady called Bridget Wall in Limerick, but I'm not sure about this.

My gt grandfather Laurence Reidy was born in Ballincollig Cork in 1878, moved to England in 1900, met and married Maude Buxton and raised 6 children. Laurence's father was Patrick who was born on 05/03/1848 in Caher Parish, Co Tipperary, his father was Michael and mother Margaret/Mary O'Dwyer. Patrick had two brothers Jacob 24.01.1847 and William 27.04.1852, also born in Caher parish. I would like to go back a generation if possible, I cannot find a marriage entry for William and Margaret in Co Tipperary, can anyone help?
William's profession on Patrick's marriage certificate is 'Smith'. There is a record of a Michael Reidy dying in Clogheen workhouse, Tipperary, in 1867 aged 60 which would make his date of birth approx 1807. Caher Parish is part of Clogheen. All info gratefully received

My great-x3 grandmother was Elizabeth Ready. She was born about 1834 in Windsor, Berkshire, England. Her parents were John Reddy or Roddy and Mary Dooly. According to the small bits of information I’ve found, John Reddy/Roddy was born in Waterford (County or town I’m not sure), Ireland sometime around 1800. I think that John had at least 2 siblings; Ann Roddy/Ready and Catherine Roddy/Ready and that their father was also named John. Does anyone have any information on Reddy, Ready or Roddy families in the Waterford area?

Although there were 3 sons, the name in this branch of the family has died out. There were rumours that my grandfather was politically active and that my grandmother was a traveller.
