2020 Russian election advantages

2020 Russian election advantages

There is little doubt that Russia intervened in our presidential election of 2016 in favor of candidate Donald Trump. It has been confirmed multiple times by our intelligence agencies and most recently by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

President Trump denies this and takes the word of President Putin that Russia did not interfere in our elections over the findings of our intelligence agencies.

The commutation of Roger Stone’s prison sentence

The commutation of Roger Stone’s prison sentence

Once again the flaws in our justice system are on display. Senator Mitt Romney calls this ourtrage “Unprecedented, historic corruption: an American president commutes the sentence of a person convicted by a jury of lying to shield that very president.”

Question on Collusion

Question on Collusion

Another question but this time on collusion. The Mueller report documents several contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians. The report say they found nothing to prove a conspiracy but did not exonerate the President. Collusion is a much less specific term. But I think the lack of proof of conspiracy may just indicate that the obstruction and cover-up might have worked in this case.

Will President Trump’s conversation with the President of Ukraine cause people to re-examine the collision/conspiracy part of the Mueller report?

#MoscowMitch, a deserved nickname or not

#MoscowMitch, a deserved nickname or not

Lately there has been a lot of talk about Moscow Mitch (or #MoscowMitch), a new nickname or perhaps title for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Is this deserved or not?

I tend to think it appropriate but there is opinion on both sides of the issue. Continue reading “#MoscowMitch, a deserved nickname or not”

US Election security

US Election security

Yes, we need to increase our election security. But there are some who think it unnecessary or perhaps they welcome Russian intervention as it has helped them in the past and they hope it will continue to keep them in power. But that is just my opinion and many agree but I am getting a bit ahead.

Now is the time to contact Congress to protect the Mueller investigation

Now is the time to contact Congress to protect the Mueller investigation

President Donald Trump just forced Jeff Sessions to resign. Now is the time to contact Congress. I sent my comments tonight to my Representative and Senators.

Now is the time to pass legislation to protect the Mueller investigation. It should not be shut down or interfered with in any way.

Protect the Special Counsel and his investigation

Protect the Special Counsel and his investigation

I mentioned in my last post that I think we should pass legislation to protect the Special Counsel and his investigation. President Trump has repeatedly threatented to end the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election which Mr. Trump has called a Rigged Witch Hunt and illegal .

Omarosa thing, FBI thing, Russia thing

Omarosa thing, FBI thing, Russia thing

The Omarosa thing seems to be dominating the news these days. I am wondering if the White House orchestrated the timing of the firing of FBI agent Peter Strzok with this Omarosa thing so that this firing would get less news coverage than it would otherwise.

Since this firing seems to be part of a plan to discredit the FBI, I’ll just call it the FBI thing . It seems to me that this FBI thing is related to the Russia thing.

Representative Devin Nunes fails again

Representative Devin Nunes fails again

Devin Nunes fails early and often

Rep. Devin Nunes fails at what he should be doing. He has been busy not doing his job for the past year and a half or so. First he manges to turn the respected and bipartisan House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence into a national disgrace with his wild claims of wrongdoing by our intelligence community and sharing his “evidence” with the Trump administration rather than his committee (see articles in Wired and this blog).

As a result, he was recused from the investigation into Russian election interference but still did his best to stop the Russian election interference investigation including the “extraordinarily reckless” release of a previously classified and highly biased memo.

Surprise: The Federalist got it wrong

Surprise: The Federalist got it wrong

A few months back mainstream media also known as fake news or perhaps the liberal media presented a story that the NRA may have conspired with Vladimir Putin to help elect Donald Trump. Of course this was treated as a liberal fantasy or conspiracy theory by The Federalist and other supporters to President Trump (see http://thefederalist.com/2018/04/12/the-lefts-newest-nra-conspiracy-theory-approaches-9-11-truther-territory/.)

Trump – Putin Summit: Shocking but not surprising

Trump – Putin Summit: Shocking but not surprising

If any US President behaved like President Trump in the recent Trump – Putin summit it would be shocking but given that it was President Trump it was not surprising.

President Trump has repeatedly denied that the Russians meddled in our elections despite the findings of our intelligence and law-enforcement agencies. So it was not a surprise when he took President Putin’s word that Russia did not interfere in our elections.

Angry Democrats and angry but not a Democrat

Angry Democrats and angry but not a Democrat

President Trump believes the probe of Russian interference in the 2106 election is a “witch hunt” by angry democrats. I am angry but not a Democrat and believe the evidence is very much in conflict with the President’s claims.

But I am getting a bit ahead so let’s go back to President Trump’s claim.

Volunteers for the Trump campaign

Volunteers for the Trump campaign

So now George Papadopoulos joins the ranks of volunteers for the Trump campaign. Sounds pretty low and the President Trump himself had made it sound even less inportant by refering to George Papadopoulos as a “low level volunteer” (see twitter Oct 31).

However volunteers are not always unimportant. As CBS news pointed out:

Distractions and the important stuff

Distractions and the important stuff

Distractions keep our attention off the important stuff. The problem many of us have is we can’t tell which are the distractions in President Trump’s administration and what is important.

Certainly the Russian interference in our election is important. We do not know yet if the president or perhaps part of his administration or campaign helped the Russians in some way. But it is clearly important to learn this. The apparent cover-up and attempts to interfere with this investigation are suggestive but not proof. Non-recusal recusal of Jeff Sessions

Non-recusal recusal of Jeff Sessions

The non-recusal recusal of Jeff Sessions makes one wonder what recusal means. I thought it meant not participating in an official action. But that is apparently not what it means in the Trump administration.

About 2 months ago Jeff Sessions said
