Special prosecutor or commission on Russian influence

Special prosecutor or commission on Russian influence

This is potentially really big. Is it time for a special prosecutor or commission on Russian influence in the election and the government in general?

With the resignation of Michael T. Flynn from his post as National Security Adviser, the near certainly on Russian influence on our election, and other possible problems with Russian influence, is it not time to appoint a special prosecutor or high-level indedendent commission on Russian influence on our government.

There are several ongoing and completed investigations on some aspects of this but should we look at the big picture in a nonpartisan way ?

Donald bizarrely said to Hillary

Donald bizarrely said to Hillary

During the recent debate Donald bizarrely said to Hillary, “No wonder you’ve been fighting ISIS your entire adult life.”

I am at a loss as to his meaning, but that does not seem unusual Continue reading “Donald bizarrely said to Hillary”

Bernie or bust mistake

Bernie or bust mistake

I watched part of the first night of the Democratic Party convention last night. As I expected, after the primary contest there was still considerable support for Bernie Sanders, his ideas, and the political revolution he started.

But Bernie came in second. It was a great showing, especially since many considered the primary process to be unfair to Sanders.

The convention will nominate the winner Hillary Clinton to oppose the Republican nominee Donald Trump. Some Sanders’ supporters think the best course is to sit out the election and not vote for anyone. This is the “Bernie or bust” group and I think they are making a huge mistake.

I doubt many of them would prefer a Trump presidency to a Clinton presidency. But that could be the result if Hillary Clinton does not get the support of all Democrats and progressives.

So “Bernie or bust” people think about it. Do you really want to take a chance on the outcome of this election? Well, we all take a chance every 4 years. Those who vote get a say in the outcome.

Democratic Presidential primary

Democratic Presidential primary

I think there are 2 strong candidates in the Democratic Presidential primary. Neither is perfect but both are good. Certainly much better than we’ve seen on the Republican side.

I do not have a vote in the primary. I live in Pennsylvania. You get to vote in the democratic primary if you are a registered Democrat. You get to vote in the Republican primary if you are a registered Republican. If you are neither, you do not get to vote in the primary. I don’t think that is particularly good and I’ll probably write more about it later but I’m digressing from my original purose to discuss the Democratic Presidential primary.

I’ll probably support the democratic candidate in the fall. It may be Hillary Clinton but maybe it will be Bernie Sanders. Continue reading “Democratic Presidential primary”

How does it look?

How does it look?

How does it look? Both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are trying to convince voters in the Democratic presidential primary of their abilities to represent the people as President.

At least part of the convincing revolves around who will do the best job for the American people – not the few but the many. Each thinks they would do better. And tries to convince people that of that.

How does it look?

But how does it look when Bernie runs off to Rome to see the Pope and spread his message while Hillary goes off to Hollywood to raise money and meet with movie stars.

Bernie Sanders’ foreign policy

Bernie Sanders’ foreign policy

I watched the New Hampshire Democratic debate a few days ago. It was good seeing Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton debate some of the differences between them.

In some cases I think it did get a bit silly in arguing who is a progressive. I think they both take progressive stances but they are also very different.

In asking about foreign policy Continue reading “Bernie Sanders’ foreign policy”

Who is this guy? Why should I care?

Who is this guy? Why should I care?

I got an email titled “Who is this Guy???” It is apparently a version of an email that has been around since 2010 or earlier.  I suppose the 3 question marks are meant to show that this is an important question.

I wasn’t quite sure of the point but it seems to suggest that I should not vote for Hillary Clinton because her daughter’s father-in-law scammed lots of people out of money and went to jail for it. Continue reading “Who is this guy? Why should I care?”

Clinton misleads on Healthcare

Clinton misleads on Healthcare

Hillary Clinton has said the Bernie Sanders’ “Medicare for all” plan would leave health care in the hands on Republican governors. Perhaps she has confused Bernie Sanders’ plan with the medicaid expansion under Obamacare. But it does seem more likely that Hillary Clinton misleads, or tries to mislead, us on Bernie Sanders’ “Medicare for all” plan.

I have Medicare. I do not have Medicaid. They are 2 distinct programs. If someone believes they should be President, I think they should understand the difference between them, be able to intelligently discuss them, and not use the similarity in names to mislead the public.

There are some real differences between Clinton and Sanders. I would rather see an honest discussion of the policy differences than misleading claims.

Clinton emails

Clinton emails

Anyone who has been near a TV or radio or read a newspaper or magazine lately has probably heard quite a bit about Hillary Clinton’s email problems due to a decision to use a personal email server rather than the official one. The Clinton emails controversy prompted the best line of the Democratic debate when Bernie Sanders said:

“The American people are tired of hearing about your damn emails”

But the fact is that the FBI is investigating the Clinton email situation to see if national security was endangered and criminal charges should result. Continue reading “Clinton emails”
