Volunteers for the Trump campaign

So now George Papadopoulos joins the ranks of volunteers for the Trump campaign. Sounds pretty low and the President Trump himself had made it sound even less inportant by refering to George Papadopoulos as a “low level volunteer” (see twitter Oct 31).

However volunteers are not always unimportant. As CBS news pointed out:

The White House is distancing itself from two former senior members of Donald Trump’s team, amid an FBI investigation into possible connections between Trump “associates” and Russia.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday referred to Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, as a “volunteer of the campaign.” And he said Paul Manafort, who ran Trump’s campaign for months, “played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time.”

So although President Trump and the White House like to downplay the roles of volunteers when it suits them, we do know that Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn did play major roles.

We do not know yet how important George Papadopoulos was to the Trump campaign. But we do know he was at least important enough to be mentioned by the President as an advisor. Sounds like he was more important the “coffee boy” he has been called by a Trump campaign adviser .

But does it really matter?. He does provide evidence that seems highly relevant to the investigation of Russan influence on the 2106 election.

  1. Actually the Trump campaign didn’t have any paid workers. They were all volunteers. This is a bit like Uber that doesn’t have any driver employees. So, Trump can claim that all these folks were just spending their spare time on his election team…

He is not responsible in any way for their actions …

  2. Hi Jay,

Glad the Atlanta Sailor is following this blog. I miss our lunches. Thanks for the comment.

The blog gives me something to do in my old age and might give folks something to think about now and then.
