MacKenzie search New Hampshire

A few days ago I wrote about our McKenzie/MacKenzie search. Specifically I wrote about Colin McKenzie of Ellsworth, Maine. I was hoping this might bring a few comments from distant relatives.

But it did not, at least not yet. We genealogists are an optimistic bunch.

A genealogy book

But I did get lucky in finding a 1908 book scanned by Google. The book is “Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire:…”. The book has quite a few volumes. This link points you to the MacKenzie entry in volume 4.

Although the entry starts discussing Colin in Maine, it soon becomes obvious why this is in a book about New Hampshire genealogy.

MacKenzie in New Hampshire

The book tells us that a son of Colin McKenzie of Ellsworth, Maine moved to New Hampshire. He was a physician with a rather long name, Nicholas Young Bradford MacKenzie. Dr. MacKenzie lived much of his adult life in Andover, N.H. He married Addie Trask in 1905 and had 6 children (Eunice, Muriel, Jesse, Catherine, Stuart, and Florence). He died in 1940 but it seems that Addie or Adelaide MacKenzie lived until 1972.

And the MacKenzie search for this Nova Scotia family now includes New Hampshire. So far we have Nova Scotia, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. Who knows where this will take us?

  1. Stuart Mackenzie is my Grandfather, Nicholas would be my Great Grandfather. I used to spend my summers with mom, Susan, staying with Eunice in Andover. My Grandmother, June, was Stuart’s wife.

  2. Hi Amanda,

I’m glad you commented and that seems to justify my statement that genealogists are optimistic, not to mention patient. I enjoyed researching Colin as he was a bit mysterious and rather interesting. I tried to trace his family forward a generation or 2 in hope of finding someone who might be willing if exchange some informationwhich could help one or both of us.

I will contact you by email since we may want to exchange some details in private rather than publicly. By the way, your email is never displayed the blog (unless you do so) but it is disclosed to me.
