TransAtlantic again

I had read “TransAtlantic” by Colum McCann last spring before going to Ireland on vacation. I was busy with preparations for my trip and didn’t really have the time to write a review.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book but did not realize what an impression it made on me until I was in Ireland and parts of “TransAtlantic” came to mind. So in an unusual turn of events I am reading a book for the second time in a few months.

So I am reading “TransAtlantic” again. I am enjoying it as much, if not more, than the first time. I’ll probably write a bit more about it when I am done.

  1. I love Colum Mc Cann’s work. ‘Let the Great World Spin’ was simply stnuning – stylistically and thematically. Every sentence is so easily and deftly stitched with significance, that the prose shimmers and stuns, almost to the point where you have to proceed slowly to fully inhale it all. And the stories are remarkable in how they so perfectly inter-connect. I was very lucky to meet him last week at a reading! And listen to what he had to say about the new book ‘Transatlantic’. He is without doubt, one of the best contemporary writers around.

  2. I know the feeling, I’ve bguhot many a book over the year simply because of the cover. Heck, some of my latest book buying binge purchases were because of the covers only.Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is one I share with you. I saw that book on the shelves when it was first released, loved the cover, didn’t buy it but thought about it for days afterward and finally had to break down and pick it up. Imagine my great joy when it turned out to be a delightful read in addition to a lovely apple green cover.
