Mystery Monday: Sadie Evahn Spokane WA

I found Sadie Evahn several times in Spokane, WA in the early 1900s. I was really looking for Sadie French and I think this is her before she got married.

Evahn is unusual name and I don’t think it is a mistake in spelling since it is so consistent. But I’d like to hear if anyone has experience with this name as a misspelling.

Sadie Evahn married P.F. French in Coeur d’Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho on 26 Apr 1911. Coeur d’Alene is not too far across the state line so maybe they had reason for going to the Idaho. Sadie Evahn shows up several times alone in Spokane city directories before 1910 and Sadie shows up as married to Percy F. French in the following years. Percy’s full name was Percy Fernandez French and he is identified as a pianist or musician in several documents.

No luck yet finding Sadie in the 1910 or 1920 censuses. Percy was rooming in 1920 but no trace of Sadie.

Several mysteries here and I’ll do a longer write-up when I have things figured out a little better but meanwhile I’d love to hear from anyone with knowledge of Sadie Evahn or Percy Fernandez French or perhaps suggestions on how to proceed. Thanks.
