Emma Cash McKenzie

I’m trying to find out more about Emma Cash who we think was born in Allegheny, PA about 1867. I believe that is now part of Pittsburgh. Her mother was Ellen Gow (probably from Ireland) and her father was Charles Cash (probably from Germany). She and Ellen Cash are listed in the Federal census for 1860 and 1870 in Westmoreland Co PA.

Emma Cash later married Malcolm McKenzie or Mackenzie, probably in the 1880s. We think they may have married and had their first child in the Boston, MA area and later moved to the Greater New York City area (New Jersey and New York).

  1. Malcolm McKenzie I think is my 3rd Great Uncle! I have a Malcolm on the 1871 census with his family (including my 2x great grandmother) and he disappears. My Malcolm’s brother Murdock is found in Boston in the late 1800’s until he dies in 1902 when his wife and family came back to Nova Scotia. There was also a sister named Annabelle who married a Thomas H. Edison in Boston.

  2. Actually if you look at the birth of Malcolm and Emma’s first baby in Boston, they’re living with my Murdock… looks like Malcolm is the brother of Murdock. It would also explain their brother William falling off the face of the planet… He probably died within the year or two before their first babies are born.

I do have a bit more information on Malcolm’s parents as well as their siblings if you’re interested in it.

I’ve never made contact with any cousins from my McKenzie links so I’d love to hear back from you if possible! 🙂

  3. This is very exciting, a whole branch of the McKenzies that I didn’t know about. They have always been a bit of a mystery. Lots of questions. You mention an 1871 census. Is this a Mass state census? I’ll get an email together with some questions.

  4. You should have email by now. Saw the birth record on familysearch. I think a connection is very likely.

    Jack
