Working poor, a documentary

Last night I watched the HBO documentary “Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert”.

As mentioned previously, we subscribed to HBO because there was a series we wanted to watch on this premium cable channel but we stayed long after the show ended because of the documentaries. And then new shows start up and we’re glad we still have the subscription.

“Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert” did a good job of eliciting sympathy for the working poor and specifically for working poor single mothers. Katrina Gilbert is separated with 3 children. And although she earns more than the current minimum wage, struggles to support her family.

This documentary is not perfect but it is good. You may question some of her decisions and some things are not fully explained. But it is a good look at a life most of us firmly in the middle class are unfamiliar with.

The documentary is a joint project of Maria Shriver’s Shriver Report and HBO. It can be viewed on HBO (if you have a subscription) and on Shriver Report website. Both, especially the last link, might be for a limited time so check it out now if interested.
