Free trial Amazon Prime

On the sidebar, I mentioned that I am doing a free trial of Amazon Prime now. So I thought I would share my experience so far.

The trial period is about 30 days. When I sign on to Manage my Prime there is a prominent reminder that I will be charged on a certain date (that is, the trial period ends) and what looks to be a fairly easy way to end the trial without charge. So far I have had 3 packages shipped with the free 2 day shipping. Two of these arrived in 2 days. The other would have arrived on Thanksgiving if it arrived in 2 days. So it was expected on Black Friday but actually arrived here on Wednesday, 1 day after I placed the order.

Another feature of Amazon Prime is unlimited streaming of 41,000 movies and TV shows. I haven’t tried that yet so I can’t comment on it.

A third feature is a lending library of books for the Kindle. I have tried that and while it is nice, it could be much better. I tried to use it from my computer, figuring that the bigger screen would make it a bit easier. But I had no luck. The directions they gave worked fine if I accessed the Kindle store though my Kindle. Amazon claims there are over 350,000 titles in this lending library. I didn’t count but it is a long list.

So far I haven’t tried borrowing. But I browsed through the library and was sort of interested in 1 title. There was a free preview and after reading that I decided I didn’t want to borrow the book. You are limited to borrowing 1 book per month so I’m glad I didn’t use my monthly allowance on that book. I’ll be going back and looking again when I have more time

If you are also interest in trying or learning more about Prime there is a link in my sidebar.

Note added after trial:

I decided to renew for 1 year. I buy enough things off Amazon than I figure the shipping alone will be worth it. So far I have borrowed 1 book and that seems to work fine. I haven’t yet tried the video streaming.
