Background
I retired in 2008 and so I have more time now to devote to my interests in genealogy and the internet. These pages at my personal website (jackreidy.com) reflect these interests. A good number of these pages concern Irish Genealogy, a long time hobby, and I'll say more about that in a minute. I also have become interested in computers because of both my hobby and job. Briefly I worked as a scientist and data analyst/computer programmer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I have spend years working on my family genealogy. Because several branches are from Ireland, I have become interested in Irish genealogy and history. I began using computers to communicate with others with similar interests. In the old days (say 20 years ago), this involved bulletin boards, very slow modems, and echo mail. When the internet became publicly available, I started a webpage for those with an interest in the REIDY name. I enjoyed that so I branched out and have done more general stuff with Irish genealogy. I am serve as webmaster for other sites. I live in Oakmont Village (Hershey's Mill West Chester, PA) and am a member of Chapter 377, NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) so I take care of these 2 on a volunteer basis. Yes I do get paid a little. The operative word in that sentence seems to be "little" .For the past several years, the total take has been zero. But I have had years where I do make a few dollars. For the most part the links are here because I have used the company with the link but for a few it might just be that I think what the company offers is a good idea. There will also be some ads served up by Google that they pick because they seem to be related to the content of this site. I hope it works well and you find at least some interesting.
There are costs associated with running a website. For a site like this these costs are not large, but I do try to defray them a bit with advertising and affiliate programs and maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to make a profit.
For a good number of links you will go to one of my pages and I'll explain a bit about why or how I use the company (or think it is good for you to use the company). I use Link Share for many of my affiliate programs.
Privacy
I do not collect any personal information unless you provide it voluntarily (for example, when you sent me an email I have your email address or if you ask me to post a query the information in that query is publicly available). In any case I do not sell your information to a third party. If you follow any links on my pages to another website, I have no control over that website and any privacy concerns there should controlled by that site's privacy policy.
Practice Safe Hex
If your computer is on the internet (and yours is if you are looking at this), you need to be careful that it is not infected with viruses, spyware, and so forth. Because computer programs often use hexadecimal numbers this of often called "safe hex". But it no laughing matter to have your computer compromised. Many of us depend on running a computer program to give us safety.
